The implementation of circular economy practices has been developing greatly since 2019, especially regarding plastics and packaging materials. The increasing media interest in the use of plastics and their impact on the environment has made both consumers and companies change their behaviour and pursue a change towards a greener future. With this idea in mind, companies are developing new strategies and programs in order to reduce waste and extend the life of certain products and materials.
Bridget Croke, vice president of external affairs at Closed Loop Partners, stated that: “There’s a greater sense of urgency in the consumer products and retail space to move more aggressively towards recycled content and a wider variety of solutions.”
The packaging industry is going towards a much-needed change delivering products that feature new recycled materials or even using old, eco-friendly materials that will be making a comeback in the market.
